Made It Legal was founded by and is run by lawyers, but we’re not a law firm. We’re a software technology company that provides automated legal drafting to you and a marketplace for legal services so you can get legal advice direct from lawyers when you need it. Our Lawyer Marketplace makes finding a lawyer easy. Plus we’re your client happiness manager, so if you ever need help working with your lawyer we’re here for you.
How do I find legal advice through Made It Legal?
Made It Legal provides a lawyer marketplace where you can find a lawyer to give you legal advice. When you visit the Lawyer Marketplace, you can describe your legal question or project, give your budget for the work, and ask for quotes and responses from the marketplace lawyers. Keep in mind when giving a budget that the budget amount may impact how many responses you get back.
After you select a lawyer, the two of you will start working together. When you get started, you and the lawyer enter into a direct lawyer-client relationship. That means the legal advice you get is direct from your lawyer rather than from Made It Legal.
We interview and onboard all the lawyers to the lawyer marketplace to make sure you have a great selection of knowledgeable and friendly lawyers.
Made It Legal is also your client relationship manager. That means we’re here to help you have a happy relationship with your lawyer. So, we’re always here to if you were to have a concern.
Is finding legal advice through Made It Legal available everywhere?
Right now, you can get legal advice through the Lawyer Marketplace in Alberta.
We’re expanding our legal marketplace across Canada and we’re very excited about that. We regularly update the provinces where we have lawyers offering their services, so checkout the marketplace to see who’s working in your area. You can also join our newsletter and we’ll let you know as soon as we open up in a new province.
Who are the lawyers available through the Made It Legal lawyer marketplace?
The lawyers providing services to you through the Lawyer Marketplace are lawyers qualified to practice law in your province. We interview each of them to make sure they have the experience and focus on quality that we want to see in the Made It Legal marketplace. Some of the lawyers have extensive experience from large law firms and others have worked with large companies as in-house lawyers.
When you submit a request through the Lawyer Marketplace, we will send you profiles of lawyers that are a good fit for the work you need.
What if I have a problem with my lawyer?
Made It Legal is your client relationship manager. That means we’re here to help you have a happy relationship with your lawyer. So, we’re always here to help and to step in if you were to have a concern with the legal work you’re getting. While we don’t guarantee the lawyer’s work, if you want our help we’ll gladly talk to your lawyer for you if you have a concern about the quality of work or how quickly you’re getting service.
Can I change my plan or cancel my account?
Yes, you can change or cancel your account without hassles.
When you make your own legal documents online, you can switch between our Free, Basic, and Unlimited Plans anytime. If you’re on the Unlimited Plan, the change takes effect at the end of your billing cycle.
How do I make legal documents online with Made It Legal?
Find a document you need (you can take a look at them all here). Start making your document by clicking on “Make my Document” and we’ll ask you some questions to get to know your business and to see what needs to go into your document. After you’re all done answering the guided questions, you’ll get a full preview of your document. When you click to finish your document it will be saved in your Made It Legal account, ready for you to use instantly.
Do the documents work for all areas of Canada?
Most of our legal documents are designed to be used across Canada except for in Quebec. We love Quebec, but it has a different legal system than the rest of Canada. We’re working on making documents that can be used in Quebec and translated into French. If a document can’t be used elsewhere across Canada, we’ll let you know before you start making it.
When I make a legal document am I getting legal advice?
All of our legal document templates are meticulously reviewed by a lawyer so you’re getting great legal documents. We also make sure the technologies we use to make your legal documents, including our AI tools, are thoroughly tested by our software development team and also our lawyers for quality control. But when you make a legal document through our self-serve guides online, you’re not getting legal advice from us. We provide a software service and not lawyer services. But don’t worry! You can get legal advice through our friendly and easy-to-use Lawyer Marketplace.

Maybe it’s idealistic to build a company that is trying to do that at work. After all, part of life is just the grind of having to work a job, right? With over a decade of experience with large international law firms and companies, extensive senior in-house legal leadership, and strategic advice for technology start-ups, Made It Legal brings exceptional legal solutions to businesses, small or large.
Think of us as real human lawyers and tech aficionados that have combined forces to improve your legal experience, dramatically.
We felt driven to do something big.
We’re passionate about entrepreneurship, whether that’s starting up a business or innovating one from the inside out. If we can save just one more person from a boring desk job and empower them to do something bigger and better, then our own crazy entrepreneur journey will have been worth it. But, what were we going to do create value in the world?
The problem we saw everywhere.
Many of our clients, maybe even most of them, put off talking to their lawyer far too long. They would copy and paste a legal document together from Google, not realizing that many clauses were actually bad for them, maybe didn’t even apply to the deal, and the document just wasn’t done correctly. That actually ended up costing much more nearly every time – more to fix the problem and more to create the original document because a lot had to be redone.
We asked, “how might we make it easier for entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, and our clients to get quality legal documents and help?”
The answer was to use legal automation to create high-quality legal documents at a low cost for our customers, and then also to connect them with a real human lawyer when they needed extra help or legal advice.
We started with really high quality legal contracts and documents, then we taught a computer how to write them based on answers to the same questions we would ask real clients, and that allowed us to write contracts better and faster.
We then created a legal marketplace so when you need to make a change you’re not comfortable with or need some legal advice, you can get connected with a lawyer with just a few clicks. Since you’ve made your document with Made It Legal already, the lawyer’s time is focused on the last bit of help you actually need, saving you time and money.
